Thank you for purchasing jewelry from Candace Stribling Jewelry.  Here are some tips for keeping your jewelry in good condition so you can wear it for many years to come.

Sterling silver tarnishes naturally due to its metal compositon (92.5% fine silver and 7.5% copper.  It is the copper that causes the tarnishing and some people's body chemistry will react with the copper in the sterling silver which may turn your skin green or blackish.

As a general rule, jewelry should be the final touch to any ensemble. Adorn yourself after you have applied any cosmetics, hairspray, perfume, or lotions. (Be sure to avoid any other household chemicals and oils, too!)

  • Always remove your jewelry when housecleaning, using abrasive cleansers, bathing, or swimming. The chemicals can damage your pieces.

To prevent or slow down tarnishing:

  • Use an anti-tarnish jewelry strip. All jewelry is shipped with an anti-tarnish strip.
  • Store the jewelry in a plastic zip-lock bag, anti-tarnish jewelry pouch or jewelry box.
  • Save the silica gel packs that come with prescription medicines or in handbags or shoes. These are excellent for placing in your jewelry boxes.

When polishing your jewelry, use 100% cotton or specially made polishing cloths.

Always use jewelry cleaners made expressly for the type of cleaning. Some cleaners can damage certain natural stones.

Protect your jewelry by storing in separate boxes as some soft materials/stones such as pearls, lapis, malachite, turquoise and opals can be easily scratched.

Always remember-

Jewelry should be last to put on, and the first to take off.
