Earrings - The Perfect Finishing Touch

Earrings frame your face and draw attention to your eyes and warm smile. Long dangles or drops, sparkling studs or posts, earrings set the tone for your entire outfit, or they can be the perfect finishing touch of sparkle to show how phenomenal you are!  

Not to mention, you can never have enough of them! This month we’re celebrating YOU and how you express yourself with earrings! 

But first, a brief history lesson (no yawning, this is interesting!) Did you know

• Originating in ancient Asia, earrings were worn to signify class and wealth. Earrings would often be set with expensive gemstones or pearls as a show of social status. However, at one time, in ancient Rome and Greece, earrings were worn only by slaves and prostitutes. Who knew?

• In the 13th century, earrings were banned from the Catholic Church, which forbid the alteration of the human body created by God. It was during this time that earrings became more popular for the lower classes.

• After the renaissance, with a disregard for the Church’s rules, earrings began to see a renewed popularity. It was common for young males of single mothers whose fathers had been killed to have their right ear pierced to identify them as the head of the family. Likewise, when a male was the last in his family line, he wore earrings in both ears to excuse him from participating in war and extinguishing the family lineage.

History lesson aside, it’s safe to say earrings have been around for centuries and are easily the most versatile, wearable, affordable accessory. Oh, and you can never have too many!
